Getting PKed - a nightly occurance?
Generally, on UOSA, how often should one expect to be PKed? Every night? Twice a night? Some of these posts make the server look like a real hell.
On OSI, running around doing typical noob stuff (wandering aimlessly, hunting the odd ettin in the middle of nowhere) you ran a fair chance of running into strangers, and there was maybe a 40% chance those strangers would attack you (at least that's how I remember my noob days in '96 on Chesapeake). The odds were stacked against you if you frequented hot spots like the X-roads, etc.
These were chances I could live with. I loved the thrill of happening upon total bloodthirsty bastards. But... it seems that on UOSA might have a less um, "circumstantial" feel to its wilderness conflicts. Based on what I'm reading, wandering in the woods far outside of Brit, some pack will use their GM Tracking to find me from fifty screens away, follow me and blow me up because my name was the only one that popped up on the gump. (50 screens might be an exaggeration but you get it).
How possible is it to be "left alone", is what I'm asking. I remember when Trammel first hit and the shard was divided- basically, everyone in Felucca was red (as I recall). I had a small tower in Felucca that I tried to use to work up a crafter - it was impossible. Every single one of my fifteen neighbors was an earthquake fanatic. They saw a blue name and went ape. They were probably killing each other, too, before I showed up. Is that what one should expect here?
Please know, I'm not condemning senseless murder sprees. I'm just wondering what one should expect, here on UOSA. It seems (especially seeing forum-frequenters use of the term Trammie) that this world is as divided as one that has Trammel and Felucca, except in this case, Trammel is called "town".

Re: Getting PKed - a nightly occurance?
You have a rare chance of bumping into someone in the forest. PK's tend to just recall around to the major hot-spots here, so you should be fairly ok, if you stay clear of those areas.
It really does seem like everyone is out to get you though, and that is because everone has their own pk, and practically no risk with multi-clienting. Even if they did die, they would be able to macro back up easily. Skill gain is entirely too fast, coupled with afk macroing, it sort of creates an environment where there is no red vs. blue mentality. It's just as probably that Bob the Miner would PK you on an alt as it is to be PK'd by an actual PK.
Just be weary of anyone you see outside (and inside) of town. It's really not too bad once you know the areas.

I've created a newbie character and have been running around here and there. So far I've never met a pk, then again - I've only played that character maybe 20 hours total.
As Matron said, the chance of running into a pk right out in the middle of nowhere is not that big.

If you're wandering around in the wilderness, or traveling by horse to and from towns, moongates, outside guardzone etc, you probably won't run into pks. Besides spawn and convenient resource spots, people don't hang around in the middle of nowhere. I guess it's because the game is not "fresh" anymore, so I guess people don't explore.
This does not happen often:
Basically pks only visit places that people have a reason to frequent.

Pks don't usually look for blues in the wilderness... Because the chances of finding someone is really rare. The only reason I'd be running around in the wilderness is to look for house spots or nostalgic exploring, and maybe training newb chars (which vets don't do... they macro!). Plus, there are wandering healers that they'd track, so not a very common behavior for pks.it seems that on UOSA might have a less um, "circumstantial" feel to its wilderness conflicts. Why would they be tracking wandering healers? To put them in their houses?
Which reminds me - I remember when OSI started decaying NPCs and Monsters trapped inside of houses, to cut down on clutter I guess. I notice, though, that people have sheep farms here. Do trapped pets decay on UOSA?

If you do not interact with them in 20 hours they decay.Commodore Axavious wrote:Why would they be tracking wandering healers? To put them in their houses?

Does a player have to interact with them or can it be an NPC such as a mob attacking them?

Yeah, because, I'd like to start farming Ogres. I prefer their wool over sheep. Plus, cA doesn't currently require a permit for Ogres, as I understand it, due to the Ogre's coat being allergen free, posing no risk to the general public.
Actually, if monsters can be "refreshed" by allowing them to aggro on you, then I'm surprised no one has experimented with defending their house using detect-hidden bots (as I've heard some do) and filling the corridors with wild dragons or Nightmares or something. Granted, it would be hard for the owners to get in and out themselves, but it would prove an exciting obstacle for would-be looters, to say the least. Maybe you could make turrets on your tower/keep/castle, but trap monsters that cast spells up there there, as opposed to archer bots. Things that heal themselves perhaps - don't nightmares do that?

Oh, we have a permit for that. Don't worry, you can pay your permit like every other upstanding citizen of UOSA.

Wow, thanks for blowing my secret. Why do you think I left out the "lord" part? Now everybody and their mother is going to be ripping my Ogre-lord wool idea. My dreams of monopoly are ruined!Downs wrote:only ogre lords have wool.

I better get royalties.
EDIT: By the way, since my plans are already sunk, you might as well know that you can only harvest the wool while the Ogre is paralyzed and poisoned.
