PvM Killing blow

First off this is a serious question not a rant about it.

Im fairly new here and Ive noticed when killing mobs it generally takes me as much time to get that last killing blow in as it does to get the mobs health down to that point. They seem to be very hard to hit when the have their backs faced to you and take very little damage when they do get hit. Im at GM mace/tactics/anat so there isnt much more I can do that way.

Im hoping this just isnt my imagination and there is something specific I can do to finish off a mob

It's just your imagination playing tricks on you. Keep standing next to the mob, eventually it'll fall.

100% to redlined takes X amount of seconds.
Redlined to dead takes X amount of seconds aswell.
