Suggestions For Goldsink
I hear everyone say "We need a gold sink so bad." Well, I figured I would create a thread on it where everyone can post their ideals for goldsinks. I'll start it off with a simple and in my mind very effective gold sink.
Make silver buyable via a vendor. You can still earn it via events, or you can dump endless amounts of gold into it.

Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
Problem with this is, how do you set the exchange rate?
Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
No.
I'd rather see empty houses than silver everywhere.
How about we just throw some gold out and let it decay.

Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
That would be for Derrick to decide. He could base it off current silver value, or, he could make it like, twice the current silver value, which in my opinion would be the better option. Would suck up a lot more gold and there are always going to be people willing to pay it.

Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
When you realise just how easy it is to get gold on this shard, you realise that no gold sink will ever serve it's purpose. 60k in under an hour is eezy peezy.
"Inflation", unfortunately, is part of UO. I think things like multi-clienting and afk macroing only make it act faster, regardless it is always going to happen.

Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
Here are just a few things I came up with.
- Maintenance costs for blessed clothing (or silver obtained items as a whole)
Maintenance costs for guild add-ons
Participation bounty fee (if you won an event recently it costs gold to participate)
Special (player-run) event prizes fees

Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
My suggestion is that all players that are male must give me 100k per month for being so sexy...
This would be a per account goldsink.

Err your suggesting Derrick should take gold from peoples banks and delete it? If so, somehow I dont think that will go over so well.

Fine.. Btw, I do think the Gold to Silver conversion is a good idea.Stranger wrote:This is UO it only works that way irl.Kelektra wrote:My suggestion is that all players that are male must give me 100k per month for being so sexy...

Not sure on the rate though. Current rate is good i think.. Double the going rate would be way too extreme and just give the silver sellers even more of a profit.
So buying it from NPC would be 10k per
But if you won it then you may sell it for less then that.
Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
My point is less about establishing a number, and more about the fact that the "going rate" for silver is always changing (usually up).
An effective gold sink needs to be something that is not ever able to be turned back into gold. Not from selling to an NPC, not from turning into something else sellable, not from trading to another player for gold. Some silver rewards are good gold sinks - for example, a name change deed. It's only usable once, and then it's gone from the system entirely. A movable unique rare, like a lava tile or a statue, is not a gold sink because it can always be traded back to someone else for gold.

Re: Suggestions For Goldsink
First you have to take into account why gold gets out of hand on UO and when it initially started.
I believe it started in T2A, when drops were increased dramatically, yet NPC goods cost the exact same. The cost per living vs the insane drops is the problem, a gold sink is a temporary bandaid at best (and I seriously doubt one would even get that far).
There is no accurate or even proper fix to this.
