Shard Growth and how you can help!

Post by XaN »

Here are just a few examples that you can choose to use or enhance in your own special way.

If you own a house, keep a locked chest on your front stairs. Put a book either beside or on top (if that's possible) that says "New Player Gear Chest". I put recalls, runes to cities, armor (magic too if it's crap), weps (same as armor)... etc.

When I own a house, it will be close to town and will always try to keep something in that chest. These are just teeny tiny things that you can do. Some people go as far as finding where the new players are and giving them direct help. Choose your own way, just keep in mind that self-gain is not what your looking for.

In my opinion, the newcoming players need to get some feeling of community, and some kind of initial achievement.

Tell them, how easy is to rise stats spending no resources at all.
How to make a moster basher or bard moneymaker with minimum gold and time investment.
Tell about server events and housing situation. Describe, how good will be one or another template here.

Most newbies will need a mount, to ride around and have look, some source of easy cash (like, killing animals for meat / feathers / gathering wool and cotton), recall spells and scrolls, and a good rune library, where they wont be ganked each time they recall. Monster bashers will need a gm weapon as well. In case they want to try different trades, some tools might be useful.

Imo, newbies do not deserve huge gifts, as full spellbooks, boats, houses or accounts. They should know the price of a gold, and have some minimal survival skills. At least, developing a new character was a good part of a game, and gave some sence of accomplishment, when done.

Im not saying give them 'Everything". Im saying give them some resources that might help them get around better.

We should have a talk with admins about every house having a newbie chest on the stairs outside, regardless of whether the owner is up to keeping it stocked or not.
I was always sure you could lock down items on the stairs...?

Maybe set up a rewards system for people helping new people? Nothing to add to skills or anything, more item based than anything. I don't think this could actually happen, but if there's an idea to spoken...!
