extreme makeover: build edition. can you fix me?

Post by Shaco »

i started out with a gimmick fencer dex mage, and i realized along the way that i just want to play strong and i can be a unique snowflake some other way. you need to give me a hand in fixing the mess i have now become.
here is where I am:

anatomy 100 u
evalint 100 u
tactics 97.6 u
magery 95.4 u
healing 73.2 u
resist 70.6 u
fencing 58.2 d
swords 38.7 u
wrestling 35.4
meditation 27.4 u

94 str
42 dex
89 int

i don't know what the fuck i'm doing. show me the way up

Hehe...ok, it is clear you want to play "strong", but what does that mean? You want to tank as in a good dexxer? or do you want to he a hally mage and do l33t 1v1 tourny PvP?

If what you want are cookie cutter type builds, the two most popular are:

If dexxer is your choice, go:
GM Anat
GM Tact
GM [Wep Skill] (your choice of maces, swds or fencing)
GM Healing
GM Resist

The other two skills I recomend you consider choosing between:
Parry
Hiding
Magery
Poisoning

...or a combination of the first 3 (poisoning is not really worth it at less than a very high skill value, and mage + eval is also not the best idea since you'll have little mana and VEEEERY slow mana regen)

STR: 100
DEX: 100 (you can drop this to 90 to increase INT to 35 if you do choose magery, but use debuff pots or items, actually, you should always use debuff items/pots when PvPing)
INT: 25 (or 35, see above)

If you choose to go the Hally mage route, then:
GM Magery
GM Med
GM Eval
GM Resist
GM Wrestling
GM Tactics
GM Swordsmanship

STR: 100
DEX: 25 (or 35 with 90 INT, but this last patch basically nullified that advantage)
INT: 100

Of course, the beauty of this game is that you can always insert the quirk you want into your builds, nothing is set on stone. I've seen archer-mages / macer-mages / alchy-dexxers / etc.

yes thanks the real question i suppose is how can i get to hally mage as fast as possible?
i am aware that i will have to lose anatomy and healing, but i am looking for advice about how to use what i currently have to get to where i want to be. on the other hand should i not worry about weapon skills until i finish meditation, magery, resist?

this does not have to be just as slow as starting a fresh character, but gold is an issue.

edit: am i being unclear? hold my hand here. tell me "go farm in the overworld and carry 30 of each heal reg, cast heal twice and then use meditation and then flamestrike yourself and then swing your katana. loot the monster and then shoot yourself".

it's a challenge basically... i got myself in a fuckin riddle. let's step-by-step me to 7x

edit2: i know theres pros on this forum and i will end up l33t one way or another. i just want to bring a new hally mage to the scene and it seemed stupid not to ask for help

Good info, but the above quote I would have to disagree with.

Ive got 3 sword tank mages; one 25 dex, one 35 dex, and one 45 dex. I notice a substantial difference when cycling hallys at different dex levels.

Higher dex actually involves a different pvp style then most fast casting lower dex mages, its quite fun.

To go from there to tank... I'd do the weapon skills first (swords, wrestling and tactics).

Hire a soldier from the Jhelom pits. Gate it to your house. Search the forums for a method to attack it without it hitting you back. Drop fencing first and you can use your own healing to heal it; else you'll be healing with an alternate character. Use a skinning knife to do the least damage with your attacks. Bear in mind you ultimately will destroy it's armor and shield. You can release him at this point and go get another one if you like, otherwise you'll find with 100 anatomy and tactics, you may well kill him accidentally when he is unarmored.

Then cast spells on yourself to raise Magery and Resist. At this point, you really should have an alternate character to heal you with bandages cheaply.

I agree about going wep skills first, I'd just suggest a Paladin if you intend to change it (you can find them in the building behind Delucia's bank), or a fighter is fine if you keep him throughout your training. Apparently since the Pally has a higher skill than fighters, this makes you GM faster.

And really, read the links in this thread.

I am not as l33t as Rose, so (s)he knows best. :P
