Could someone please explain how this happens?
Could someone please explain how this happens?
Perhaps this has already been discussed in a previous thread, but it has to do with being found immediately while being hidden and in stealth mode.
I've had plenty of experience being "tracked" by other players, but lately I've had the experience with some players being able to run directly to where I'm hidden, throw and explosion pot directly on the tile I'm standing, and proceed to kill my lockpicker/thief. Is there something I'm missing with the razor program? Or is someone using multiple characters to just be super awesome at finding someone hidden? It just seems odd that someone can appear on the very outside of my viewing area, run directly to the spot I've stealthed to, and throw and exp potion directly where I am standing.

It's likely the Tracking skill, and/or them just making a lucky guess based on you being right next to a treasure chest as you're trying to lockpick it.
With Tracking, you get a general sense of where someone is from well off the screen, and people tend to hide/stealth in very predictable places.
Or it's GHOSTING!!!1!!111!!

Re: Could someone please explain how this happens?
Actually this has been happening nowhere near any pickable chests. Can ghosts see hidden players? I didn't think they could.
Re: Could someone please explain how this happens?
Well, they can see where you are before you hide. That was more of a joke though.
This is likely Tracking. If you got killed last night in Deceit level 4, I can tell you for sure it's Tracking.

Tracking is sick. Probably the most underrated skill out there. My dex pk can find people from like 10 screens away, which is normally the entire dungeon. Mikel123 - you got me into tracking a long while back when I read some of your character templates. Just sick.
Plus - others love to PK with me as they can gate my ass in, I track, and just roll back through the gate if no one is around. Much less risk for them.... thats for sure.

Yeah, Tracking is indeed awesome. Can't believe I never used it on OSI.

Re: Could someone please explain how this happens?
kwhiz, I just read through your older posts. It was me that killed you in Deceit, and it was largely via Tracking, plus an educated guess about where you might have stealthed to once you saw me (Tracking gives me direction but not distance, so I had to estimate that).
For what it's worth, I would recommend focusing on either stealing or lockpicking/treasure hunting on your character. That way you will have room for wrestling. You had no chance of recalling away from me since with presumably 0 wrestling, and me having 100 fencing, I will hit you 100% of the time. If you are a GM wrestler, I will only hit you 50% of the time. So usually, you can just stand there and keep hitting Recall until you succeed.
Lastly, as a thief it's not advisable to have a name that begins with a lower-case letter. I advise all thieves to make their name a one-word NPC-type name, so it's hard to know if the name is the result of a disguise kit or if it's the "true" name of a character.

Wait, where have you been? You mean PKs still legitimately check? Haven't you heard? Ghosting is the new in!JimmyTheDriver wrote:Plus - others love to PK with me as they can gate my ass in, I track, and just roll back through the gate if no one is around. Much less risk for them.... thats for sure.

Hahaha I guess there are still two of us who are legit. Myself and Mikel123.
Re: Could someone please explain how this happens?
All you need is 25 tracking really to do this most of the time, and it has a fairly decent range.

I have never ghosted on Olympian, and I never scout either. I think most players don't ghost.
I personally can't think of anything more boring than ghosting/scouting. The excitement is that you could enter battle/murder at any time.

OH MY GOD, I was kidding. It was a joke. This thread has nothing to do with ghosting at all.

Thanks for the responses. I spose tracking is just much more refined on this shard than what I am used to. Good job.
I'm guessing a better defense is to just recall instead of hide and stealth the moment I see a red outta the corner of my eye---or Kristen.
