Suggestion to get uosa votes up.

For ideas on how to make Second Age a better shard. Can it get any better? Maybe.

Suggestion to get uosa votes up.

Post by Mad Max »

There has always been talk about how there are servers that out rank us on the top 100 sites etc. And most of the servers that outrank us have like 10 people online or whatever. Well I came up with an idea that might help with the votes which might bring more people here who knows. Maybe there could be some kind of reward system for voting that would help get people in the habit of voting.

I don't mean any rewards in game but maybe on forums or something like that. But kind of like how in some forums they have those ranking systems depending on how many posts you make like Beginner, Novice, Veteran etc.. maybe could do something like that but pertaining to how many times you vote. I know on other mmorpgs they have systems like that where you can get points for voting for that server but are always something connected to in game. But maybe for uosa just having some recognition about how many times you vote could get people into the habit of voting for uosa much more often. And it could spread throughout the forums and other people would start doing it more because its just something fun to do, and also helps out uosa with the votes.

I mean I'll be honest I try to vote when I can but half the time I don't even remember. I don't know just food for thought, maybe if there was some way to remind everyone about voting people would do it much more often. For example seeing something around the persons forums name that shows how often they vote. And it doesn't have to be like the number of times they voted, but could be like different trophies for when they reach a new level of however many votes. It doesn't even have to be like that, but I think anything similar to that could encourage people to vote much more often.

That's actually a pretty decent idea. I have no idea how it would be implemented, or if it could be, but yeah. Good idea.

Something easier: A pop up that comes the first time you log in with a link to a vote website that opens when you click on it.

Seen that on another server, was the easiest way to promote the server I think.

This idea has been brought up before but didnt make it.
The [vote command was introduced instead i believe.

I do like Mad Max' idea.

I don't think addind some kind of reward for voting would really make people remember to do it. The subject here is to find a good way for people to remember to vote right? What's better than a scroll with link/per day when you connect ?

Is it something I can disable? I don't want a gump popping telling me to vote when I login, especially if I crash and am trying to login and get oriented quickly.

For the record, I'm an active voter

Yeah, I think Derrick's pretty against those types of pop-ups in the game (As well as the "vote stones" and what not).

But Max's suggestion seems reasonable.

Not era accurate will never happen.

Simply tell new comers that they are not needed at all, because this shard isnt about healthy and fun population.. Its about accuracy.

Let me put it this way instead.

This is Derrick's shard. His main goal is era accuracy but he chooses what to be on this server and what not. We have no part in it, so deal with it and shut up.

I'm glad to see 3 out of 5 of your posts since signing up on the forums were used to derail a thread.

Back on topic for voting. I think having a more present Vote Banner at the top of the forums would be a good and easy start. Having reminders in IRC would also be useful. Perhaps in the MOTD

I really like the original intent of this topic... if you want people to do something you need to either subsidize it, reward them, or there must be an incentive for them to do it themselves that's greater than the effort it takes to do it.
