I'm not sure if this is in game or not but does anyone remember when Giving money to an NPC beggar, the NPC would tell you about a magic weapon and the direction it is in.For example they would say something like "Thank you,tis rumored of a magic heavy crossbow to the west."
I remember this a lot but never actually found any magic weapons though

Aye, it was more than just beggars, this was a built in quest system which most NPC's participated in. This has been on the to-do list for a long time.

"In a cave towards the north east you will find a magical wand"
They weren't much fun, on Pacific anyway.

The NPC Beggars following you around, these were some of my earliest memories of Ultima Online - I'd reckon it to be late 97 to mid 98. Fancy idea's that Lord British's Britannian Guard got tough on them vagrants some time ago, as it turned out many of 'em were in cahoots with a much darker cause, the Zog Cabal... Old timers' will tell you that they come tried to cast an apocolyptic spell of Armageddon, that would surely have lead to the apocolyose of our world, had it not been for a great battle of armageddon-like proportions.
Word on the street is that the failed spell tore holes in the fabric of Britannia, leading to a new domain known to us now as the Lost Lands.
Well, basically, beggars are dicks.
The king hast proclaimed that all beggars to be "Fair Game", and as such, most such wretches do their heinous deeds in much more covert manners.
Shouldst thou find thee a beggar, thou should make No attempt to log onto thy bard character, to use thy skills of musical enticement to lure the poor sod out of guard zone, and thou certainly shall not use thy newfound freedom to hasten their demise in the most hilarious way possible.
