a lot of items had their unique names wiped as well

Nah its the ghost ship, which was originally obtained by Xanax, by figuring out a Boat-Theft bug.

Two questions:

1. What was the unique name

2. Why did many items lose their unique names? Part of a patch or something?

(I guess that's 3 questions, but 2 of them are lumped together.)

yea was a patch, however the names can be restored fairly easily
an example was a 'silver harp' (old slayer weapon) in the lich tower is now a 'standing harp'.
it may also be responsible for returning the skull of the damned to a mere skull!

Also, it has been mentioned before that you could use a furny dye tub charge on a DD'ed ship to change it's color, but I haven't tried it, just tossing it out there as relevnt info for the possible buyer...
