Cutting corpses...
Cutting corpses...
Ey! Backin the day couldn't you cut a torso and get organs. Use a knife on the head and get out a brain? Isn't that era accurate? Trying to remember eh?
No one remembers being able to do that? Could get out entrails, livers, heart, brain etc.

Re: Cutting corpses...
Yep.
It also made random pools of blood wherever you were carving.

Re: Cutting corpses...
The ability to cut heads and get out brains and cutting the torso for entrails may have been pre-T2A.

Re: Cutting corpses...
It was pre-T2A. Great times running around as a character named Dahmer dropping body parts around people and saying "That's you!"
Re: Cutting corpses...
No, I don't believe it was pre-t2a.
I didn't start playing UO until t2a (first copy i bought) and I remember this pretty clearly from back in the day.
Heart, lungs, brains, entrails, blood splatters: a necromancer having fun, or a forensic scientist at work, you decide. Either way it was fun.

I remember too, that when you kept cutting up the corpse you could end up getting human jerky.
Re: Cutting corpses...
mmm. Human jerky...an orcs second favorite food...the first being horse, of course. Hey, that rhymes.BravoFoxtrot wrote:I remember too, that when you kept cutting up the corpse you could end up getting human jerky.
Re: Cutting corpses...
Human jerky only came from the legs.
A different free shard gave jerky both from legs and arms, which was inaccurate.

Re: Cutting corpses...
While doing some research on DD's website I stumbled upon something related to this topic.
The most extravagant use of this was when Dan Rubenfield extended the bladed script to work on cutting up corpses into a rather disturbing array of bits, including allowing the harvesting of skulls. This ended up being removed when the game launched in Europe, but not before some of the battle-hardened playerkillers had engaged in cannibalism (MEAT was MEAT after all) and the collecting of their victims ears.
The point involving all of this gives a time table for when this feature was removed. This means that since it falls into t2a that this feature can exist under the current guide lines if Derrick chose too.1999

Re: Cutting corpses...
I'm going to set the record straight as there is confusion in this topic.
When you cut a corpse of a player there would be :
2 arms, 2 legs, a head, and a torso.
These items would be stacked on top of each other where the corpse was. A pool of blood will also be formed when you cut the body. The arms and legs when cut, would generate a blood stain on the ground and also produce a jerky of (players name). You were able to eat this jerky and it would go towards filling your stomach ;]
If you cut the head then it would generate a skull of (players name) along with a pool of blood where the skull was cut.
The torso when cut would generate blood and jerky of (players name).
You gotta all tip your hat to Richard Garriott as he crafted one of the finest games with such careful attention to detail ;]
As far as when the harvesting of jerky was removed it was removed shortly after fireball spell was no longer as powerful as it used to be. (Fireball used to kill in a few hits and was devastating as you could run while casting, and there was no delay)

Re: Cutting corpses...
Collecting the ears of people was a Diablo thing.
You only got jerky from cutting the legs of people. Cutting the arms of people would give you an arm bone(or possibly nothing I can't remember. I know it didn't give you jerky. You could only get two jerky per corpse). Cutting the head would give you a skull and brains. Cutting the torso would give you a ribcage, a heart, some entrails, and a liver(or was it a kidney?).
Anytime you cut up any part of the body, it would produce a blood pool wherever the body part was. In the case it was in your backpack, it would appear under your feet.

I know that ears was a Diablo thing. The portion of the article that I quoted which commented about the ears was from Designer Dragon's blog. Him next to Lord British was one of the lead or main developer's for Ultima. He probably didn't literally mean the ears and was more than likely just using it as an example to describe the feature.
Re: Cutting corpses...
So you could eat human jerky without having to cook it? Because I must say, its a pain in the butt to kill a horse and have to cook it before I eat it...I wanna just eat it raw! But if we can eat people, then i can hunt for my food again without needing a cook! yay.
I to remember brains, skull...but I dont' remember jerky, but then again at that time in UO I didn't chop up many bodies.
Also, the thought of leaving a blood splatter on the ground wherever I walk by cutting body parts in my backpack is gleeful

Re: Cutting corpses...
If we end up implementing this we'll more than likely follow the way it works on the UO Demo for a hundred percent accuracy.
