Event rules writeup? Where can I find them?

Post by Slade »

I'll admit that this was the first tournament I entered, but since when are you allowed to paralyze in duel tournaments?

Is there a listing of all the event types/rules that I can read somewhere? I also have no clue what a deathmatch is.

But more importantly.... wtf? When did paralyze become acceptable in duels?

Dunno, I don't remember para either. Now tourney fights are *stand there and die* instead of *run around poisoned and die*. Hehehe. Ill have to get the guild mojoka's to start trapping pouches for us to take to tourneys apparently.

ditto. That's how I died.... Weaken, Para, Exp, FS, Halley.

1 v 1 isn't for warriors. It's mage only.

There's been talk of removing Para, it probably shouldn't have been in there in the first place, but it has been since the tourneys opened.

Any objections to removing it?

My opinion is completely Biased. (Wanted to get that part out the way)

As a warrior (haven't trained up my mage). When fighting a mage it is essiential that we stay on the mage. Otherwise potential dmg is overwhelming. Para without pots is death everytime lol.

I am also biased but no objection here. Then again, as with any tourney rule that 'weakens' mages I think you'll always see the dexxers vote yes and the mages vote no. Lol.

It simply depends on what server you played on during OSI. There are a few servers that actually accepted para during duels. I know Pacific was one of those. I played on Baja and para wasn't acceptable during duels. I didn't learn of people using para until one of my earlier t2a shards called Hubris created by a chessy player. People from Pacific would duel using paralyze and act like you were an idiot when you made a comment about it. It was a very odd experience by far.

It would be nice if para and precasting heal was both removed. What I mean by precasting heal is when you have a prepped heal up and equip a weapon it would wipe the target. All this creates in GvG's in tournaments is people prepping gheal and using refreshed hally hits. Prep heal is already shunned in a 1v1's situation.

I've noticed that if you question pretty much any rule people treat you like an idiot. The status quo exists, everyone has their little pattern they enjoy, and no one wants anything to change ^_^

It isn't that we don't know how to counter. It's a sad thing that every arguement counter is *get magery*.. Hate being poisoned and using a heal to cure it *get magery*, don't wanna be para'd you can trap pouches *get magery*.

My orcs don't have access to magery like that and in the end it is still a moot point cause if I get pouches and am chained para'd which I'm sure some are lame enough to do. I'm right back where I started. In the field I have pots for poison. In a tourney I can do without it I guess. In the field I have guildmates for para In the tourney?

See I have counters! lol and they work really well. The only logical conclusion is you saying Xuk you're not welcomed at tourneys. Which I can deal with that too. As Faust pointed out I guess it is more of where you played at. Great Lakes, Para wasn't duel worthy. It was a sign that you couldn't pvp if you did it in a duel.

It is, but like I said, I was under the assumption that it was not allowed and thus didn't have any precautionary measures in place.

Knowing that para is allowed will definitely come in handy now.

Its just extra work to be viable in a tourney. It means everyone has to trap 20-30 trapped boxes...depending on the number of participants.

Personally, ive always like that about UO. A prepared person would last longer.

For example, you cast paralyze and I have a box to counter.
You cast poison, I have a potion to counter.
Auto play macros aside, the skill factor comes in when you determine when to use that trapped pouch or when to drink that cure.
Much of this is lost in tournaments, which is ok.
Another factor lost in tournaments is line of sight or the ability to dance around a mages max range to make them miss a spell target.

I am curious though, if paralyze is allowed in tourneys (which is fine) would it be possible to code an endlessly magic trapped pouch so it can be used over and over? Much like a potion or reg has unlimited use? I believe the unlimited use concept is there so you don't always have to find potions, regs, etc for tourneys.

Granted, again, with unlimited the need to successfully manage your resources is also lost.

I can go out and look for a a newbie tink to dart trap a box or two.... Point being what happens to the spirit of competition. Even if I survive a dump and use up my boxes. A para is just a weaksauce way of winning a tourney fight. (like my use of weaksauce don'tcha?) lol.

But, I'll be sure to add that to the list of reasons why I shouldn't win though I believe it was the same reason as before.
