help me out. im an old newb

Post by HollywoobB »

What's up everybody? I'm brandon from Indy. Just saw that the old school version of UO exists. I haven't played since the beginning of trammel. That made me quit and O hadn't given much thought about UO since until I found this!! I wanna get playing again, like back in the day!
I used to play chessapeak bay.

If someone would be so kind as to help me with some small issues I would greatly appreciate it!

I need a computer. A laptop. For the sole purpose of playing this game. What is the cheapest comp I can get that will meet the requirements for this?

Also, i plan to tether the new laptop to my phones internet. I have a droid X with Verizon 3g. Wat u think? Good idea? Bad idea?

Thx for the help in advance. I can't wait to play again!!!

In theory, a Cyrix, ARM, or Pentium Pro would be sufficient to play this game. I think the minimum OS is Windows 95. To be honest, I am pretty sure that your calculator can run this game :)

In all seriousness, even older laptops and ancient PCs would be able to run this.

I've tried playing on a laptop tethered to my Tmobile 4g hotspot. Laggy as hell. Laptop works fine with regular wireless though.

Best is to try it out!!

Connection might not be fast enough for dueling or field PvP, but it should be good for macroing and some light PvM.

Also, welcome to UOSA!!

I run at home on an old Celeron processor spinning around 1Ghz or so with I think 2GBs of RAM.
My son runs on his laptop which I think is an old Pentium M with like 512 or 1GB of RAM.

The biggest issues you'll find is the resource utilization of things like UOAM (resource hog) and running multiple clients.
A single UO client on an older system runs fine, with a few other things going (Vent, Browser, IRC, etc).

I forget my char's name. My best friends char was Maverick. We were in a really cool guild. I messaged him so hopefully he has a better memory than me

Nope. The whole file package is free to download in the downloads section.

Enjoy,

You'll love UOSA a lot, just don't get too caught up in being the leetist, richest, whatever right off the bat. Make sure to have fun because a lot of people come here, play HARD, and burn out fast. Just enjoy it, I honestly love UO for nostalgia so much I'll play an empty classic server just to wander Britannia.

Keep it in perspective and you will enjoy it for years.
