Why so much love for the T2A ruleset on freeshards?
I just made a forum account and plan on creating a game account soon. I started playing UO when my mother got a beta invite in '97. Was hooked all through my highschool years and spent countless hours doing everything in the game. I also played a number of free servers just before to a few years after AoS dropped.
One thing I never understood is why freeshards seem to fixate on the T2A ruleset. Personally, I thought the UO:R ruleset for skills (Poisoning bonus for In Nox, Eval/Anat passive wrestling, 2-handed weapon specials, better Parry, Str/2+50 [IIRC], better healing with bandages and better Veterinary, among other things) allowed for much better flexibility for PvP and PvE viable builds. I understand disliking the baggage (Trammel) that came along with it, but I was wondering why the consensus seems to focus on T2A era, almost unilaterally in the freeshard arena.
Anyway, look forward to getting PKed again in game. One rule related question; did T2A have hidden Words of Power? I miss that.

Doesn't matter. Razor makes it nearly irrelevant.FireofMarauder wrote:did T2A have hidden Words of Power? I miss that.
Save yourself the shame and embarrassment and just assume that if you can't understand me...you're the one who's retarded.

Yeah I set my Razor options so the name of the spell doesn't show (Only shows the words of power part).

UO:R mechanics where good, but Trammel trumped all.

Trammel was terrible.
The changes to housing in UO:R were terrible.
Special moves broke PVP in a lot of ways for a long time.
The party system was nice as was new player status.
The new houses I think came a bit after the original UO:R patch, correct?

UOR pvp was shit and trammel broke the sandbox

Aye! Indeed it was retarded to ever try something new and make more templates possible except for the standard 7x Tankmage!
I NEED MORE TANKMAGE!
Re: Why so much love for the T2A ruleset on freeshards?
My suspicion is that UOR is stigmatized largely because part of the UOR ruleset broke the sandbox. Beyond that point, the argument largely comes down to opinion about whether a certain mechanic from UOR is "good" or a certain mechanic is "bad".

I would guess most t2a pvp fans enjoy the precast ability available during t2a.
I prefer t2a due to its risk and difficulty vs that of UOR/powerhour/trammel era

I enjoyed UOR. For the various more template builds it brought with it.

Bolas and disarm thieves.....like we need more thieves here though....
Re: Why so much love for the T2A ruleset on freeshards?
I realise it's never gonna happen but I'd be happy to see some of the UO:R stuff on here, just not trammel. Some of the skill changes and a few of the houses like the sandstone and small mage tower would be fine with me.
We've been playing our era target date for twice as long as the era existed its self now. Something has to give eventually.
I did actually keep playing with UO:R for 6-12 months because even though the decision to split the worlds was wrong and did finally kill the game, I was having a good time with all the new mechanics. Had lots of fun with a disarm thief and a nox mage.

It would be funny to see a shard named "The Second Age" have UO:R mechanics.Kyrie wrote:I realise it's never gonna happen
