Turning "gray" for unknown reason without warning?

Post by Sulta »

My husband and I were out hunting, partied up and there were a couple times that he went gray. At first we thought it must have been that he was accidentally targeting me and had not set UO to warn when doing criminal acts. So during a quick break he looked at his options and the box was checked to warn before criminal actions. Ok so that wasn't it; then he thought that it had something to do with looting rights, but I thought that type of thing was much later in UO?

So anyway this has happened 4-6 times while we have been out hunting together (maybe more but I only catch it if I go to heal him and my warning comes up lol). We haven't come across any difficulty with this yet but I am sure we will run into something/someone if it keeps happening. What else could we/he be doing that would cause him to go gray without warning him of criminal action?

Thanks for any ideas/help!

There's no looting rights. There's a few things that could make a person criminal or attackable and there's a difference between the two, possibly accidentally healing a monster that was attacking you, or summoning a blade spirits that may have attacked a blue player. Also, is possible to go criminal if there are other objects in the world such as trapped boxes or poison food that do damage to someone and that you are responsible for.

My bet is on the blade spirits, but any further information may help me clear this up.

He is a mage, but at none of these times he was casting blade spirits. One time early as we started relearning all of what we forgot about UO he used blade-spirits and ended up killing himself lol, haven't seen him cast it since. (hehe)

He could be healing a monster accidentally, we will have to watch for that but wouldn't it still warn him? The reason I have caught he had turned gray is because I go to heal him and get the message.

When this has happened we have been out fighting in the world (not in a dungeon). He doesn't do poisoning or trapping boxes he's just a pvm mage. I do believe that he has turned gray most times after being damaged/while in a fight with monsters because I am usually rushing to get a band aid on him when I get the flag and have to decide which is more important, the flag or possibly letting him die lol. If he has gone gray at any other time I have not noticed.

Let me know what other information I can give and I will try to remember or will wait and watch and post again when I see that it happens again.

I will have to ask if he was using that spell. I don't remember being poisoned (and usually I just band aid it off if I am) but he has cured me a couple of times and it gives me something to look for, Thanks!

You'll only get the message if it's an actual criminal action. Healing a monster that is not presently a criminal is not a criminal act, but can make you grey to the person the monster is engaged with. It would be interesting to see if he's actually being flagged criminal or not, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would let you determine this outside of town.

Same thing happened to me.

I cured a friend just before recalling to town. The archcure must have hit the monster. I didn't realize I was gray until someone attacked me.
