Using stealth in PvP vs. Mounted players
If I have a character that uses stealth to get surprise attacks in, I will primarily be on foot. If I am PvPing, my advantage is a surprise attack that can devestating if executed properly and with the right abilities.
If I am dexxer based though (minimal magery to recall and that's it really - 30 skill, will use scrolls) if there a way to combat mounted players effectively?
Is there a strategy some of the more experienced PvPers of this era of UO could offer a stealther pvper that will be mountless?

stealthers arnt really pvp, they are more back stabbers.
its all about getting them when they are down already. catching them off guard. if they are aware of you, you are probable going to die or lose to chance to strike.
that all been said, stealthers are fun.

Well that gives me some hope =)
Have you had luck getting people with your stealther on horse back?

As Venox said.
It can be done. You have to understand that being a stealther in the pvp areana is not just a template it is a playstyle.
Once you understand that the options are limitless.
Archery ftw on a stealther ftr. let them get close to dead before you strike you'll win every time.
Don't fight a head on battle. It's pointless specially if they are mounted. On foot I'd say case by case.
It's a fun playstyle. But, You have to think like some of the pk's here. You're not looking for a full fledge fight. You are an assassin that deals death. To see your name should mean death for those who do.
p.s. The shadows are your friend. ^_^

as a stealther you won't get too many opportune kills because you have a higher standard of battle conditions than most builds (as you are weaker to direct confrontation, as in 1 on 1 on even grounds)
You'll be waiting more often than not unless you plan on pvping with a group. Then you can just slip in while things are hot, providing they don't just charge away with horses (the reason i shelved my stealther is for this reason, but i was a thief so i needed more time to snoop and last target macro).
In the end now that I weigh the good and the bad, I feel that the 2 skills are weigh too much, maybe i'm just not patient enough, but I really get antsy if the other guy gets away because I tried to make it too fancy by stealthing... makes me think of what were to happen if i were to just rush the guy on the spot.

All depends. I think I honestly get more kills on my stealther .vs. my pvp temp char. Because on my stealther while I wait upwards of half an hour stalking people at times. It pays off with a solid kill in the end. On my warrior I can run around and never see anyone or find people who in the end just run off

Re: Using stealth in PvP vs. Mounted players
Hmm... suddenly I find myself imaging a character that has hiding, stealth, archery, magery, tracking another char across the map, waiting for them to have to run back to heal because the PvM went bad for a moment... then striking without mercy!

no magery or tracking. But everything else is pretty much correct. I've even stealthed places and waited for people to show up to start farming. lol It's definately a patient playstyle. But fun stuff.

the stealth assassin template didn't become popular until ethereals were introduced

Actually, when I'm hunting/stalking I never multi client. It at times can cause me to lag in which case if I catch it late I may take to many steps and reveal myself. But most of all, I'm always watching the screen cause I don't wanna miss a chance or if someone runs in and bumps into me. It's time to move lol. It's a fun template.
