How House Selling Works
I think I just bought a house on this forum. But I'm not sure how the process works and I can't find any info on it.
I assume since the person (Vega) has "Honest" next to his name that it is safe to complete the transaction. However, I have been duped many times by trusting people, so I want to make sure. Also, how do you get the "Honest" rating? Do you pay through a third party on the forum or do the mods just believe you if you say you are honest didn't rip anyone off?

Re: How House Selling Works
I did buy it here on the forums. I said "I think" because I am new to this, but it appears I am the highest bidder and he has sent me a private message about meeting on IRC.
So, the "Honest" title doesn't mean that much? I mean, it seems like anyone could create a second account and vote themselves up.

I'm just making sure it is safe to go through with this transaction as 3x L-shape deed is a lot of gold for me.

Re: How House Selling Works
It usually works one of three ways:
A) The buyer (you) hands the deeds over to the seller (Vega), he then transfers the house to you
B) The seller transfers the house over to the buyer, the buyer then gives the deeds
C) The two parties agree on a mutual trusted broker to take the house/deeds, then give out as predetermined
Never assume that a forum reputation has anything to do with the player's integrity, forum reputation is gained/lost by the will of the users and since some players indiscriminately upvote/downvote people, it's generally not a good indicator. However, comments within the reputation system can usually be a good source for information.
While using the forum rep system to discern whether a player is honest or not may be a bit of a futile effort, it is pretty good in determining who the big scammers/cheaters are (Bull/Sandro/Telamon come to mind).
In this situation I would suggest using a broker, while most players wouldn't bother screwing their rep for less than a couple hundred k, it never hurts to be safe. There's a list of trusted brokers around on the forums somewhere, I would personally pay you back if any one of those players screwed you over.
EDIT: You should note that if players that use the public forums/IRC main channels to make a deal, and one of the parties scams the other party over, then the scammer will be banned from IRC/forums.

The forums are usually a tight community - U can simply just ask someones REP I should think and get a halfway decent judgement. Some folks on here got major haters and jealous trolls that follow them around so Id weigh it out with a grain of salt reguardlessly.
Ill vouch for Vega, If he posts a home or item or bid, he will follow through.

You don't need a broker with Vega. I trusted him with 2 million gold no problem. It is good that you inquired though...there are a lot of scammers out there.

Re: How House Selling Works
Tabatha, you gain reputation (my Honest) by upvotes from fellow players. For instance, a sale like this would get one upvote. 100 upvotes is Honest. I've done around 300 200-5000k deals and have not received reps for a lot of them because sales tend to stay anonymous. You can trust just about anyone with an Honest or Trustworthy reputation.
