I hope this guide will help inform and educate you about the paintings that will display on a wall easily, as well as the painting's real world counterpart (if known).
The first painting is sometimes popularly known as a 'large painting'. This painting will display on the wall without issue.

It is based off a real-world painting known as 'The Madonna with the Long Neck'.

The second painting is one that may give players the most difficulty with placement. As the screenshot below shows, it comes in two directions (south-facing and east-facing). It also comes in a type that will display on the wall without issue, and another type that proves to be difficult.

You can find out which type you have with Razor. Simply go to your Display/Counter Tab in Razor, click the Add button, and then target the painting. The four digit Item ID number will tell you which it is.
The Item ID of the ones that will display easily are : 3747 and 3748. The other two are :3746 and 3745.

It is based off a real-world painting known as 'Still Life' by Vanitas.

The third painting is pretty straight-forward. This painting displays on a wall without issue.

It is based off a real-world painting known as 'Portrait of Giovanna Tornabouni 1488'.

The fourth painting is known as a 'Portrait'. It is similar to the 'Still Life' painting in that it comes in two directions and both 'wall' and 'floor' versions. As you can see from the screenshot below, you can go by the color of the dress to determine if it will be easy to display on a wall or not. Green and Blue work without issue, red and purple are more difficult.

While it is possible to elevate the 'floor' paintings by using a table before locking them down, in my opinion, the end result looks off.
A final note worth mentioning, the paintings which work well on walls also work well on easels (except for the large Madonna). The 'floor' paintings will give you a headache trying to get them on the easels.
Happy decorating!
