Frustration with 90-11 wrestling skill gain

Post by zerovail »

Hey Everyone,

SO I have a mage that is at skill cap but have a few skills set to decay that I don't use. I set up a macro today with a fighter with a shield and no weapon that I hired from Jhelom in my tower and healed him every 90 seconds. I let this run for 3.5 hours I am currently at 91.6 skill and didn't make ANY gains...any advice? BTW I am a solo player with a single character .

Thanks

I'm not sure whether it makes a difference but I used a paladin NPC (as opposed to a fighter) and had no problems.

They're usually hanging around taverns or the park in Trinsic.

When selecting your skills to go down or "decay" make sure you are looking at the base skill or show real. Or look in razor. A fighter npc should get you pretty steady gains all the way to gm.

Make sure you arent at 700.0 real skill points and that the skill isnt locked/pointing down

OK so I am looking at my skill cap in "show real mode" and the skills I have set do point down/decay are correct. Everything else that is at zero is locked and I only have the specific skills I want to raise set to go up. that is the way they were when training and running macro and I still did not gain. I was attacking with no Armour and with spell book in hand

As for using a paladin as apposed to a fighter. i couldn't find any in intrinsic that gave me the "hire" option from their pop up menu. Am I dong something wrong when trying to hire them?

m,y skill points are at 720 "real" I have about 50 points between musicianship and provocation that I have set to pointing down (decay) my Wrestling skill is set to pointing up (raise) I still gained nothing in those 3 hours using a fighter in my tower while naked and holding my spellbook

Find one that has 'the paladin' on the paperdoll (e.g 'Henry the paladin').

Say 'Henry hire', he'll say how much it will cost, drop that much gold (or more) on him and you're good to go.

I don't think we have context menus here, s'what you mean by pop-up menu right?

If skills are correctly pointed up/down try using a mage instead of a paladin/fighter.
I came to realize wrestling gained much faster when i used a mage to hit on (but it also means u heal more often).

That being said, 3.5 hours without any gains even on a paladin really suggests you are at the skill cap.

Do not listen to this guy. If you do it correctly, you should only have to heal the NPC you are bashing. Why heal two people when you only have to heal one? A fighter, paladin or order guard will work all the way to GM 100% sure. It has already been stated that you are at the skill cap, and if the correct skills are set up/down/locked then the issue has to be your equipped spellbook. I admit I am not sure if that would change skill gain at all but if everything else is set correctly thats the only thing I can think of. Also, the Guide Section on the forums may hold some useful info you.

OK here's an interesting result. I went and hired an NPC fighter with plate and a shield out of Delucia. When I got him back to my tower he appeared Orange to me when highlighting him for attack rather than blue. I gained about 2.3 skill points over the cores of a couple hours with him while wearing no Armour or jewelry and holding my spell book. Since then I have not been able to find a fighting that appears orange to me (I don't know when that color indicates)

As for hiring Paladins or Mages, i have been unable to do so, context menu only provides "open paperdoll" and speaking "name hire" yields no result

where am I going wrong here, clearly I am not understanding something or doing something wrong.,,,sorry for my ignorance but thanks for the help everyone

your client is too updated to work correctly on SA. I would recommend uninstalling your current UO, not razor, and downloading the one provided on the website. If you are getting context drop down menus from a single left click on an npc, you are too updated. There should be no context menus on SecondAge and I honestly don't know if that could cause any of the problems you are describing. And as for the orange color, you may have to check in your settings to see what color a "criminal" appears to you. By default, its grey, but it is changeable. Orange by default means a warring guild and free to attack. Anyways, glad your skill is moving again and if you need more immediate help check the IRC chat. Good luck

Sorry I'd like to clarify when did I ever say that you needed to heal 2 people? Always have to heal 1 only.

For wrestling go hire a mage, they've always gotten me better skill gains than fighters.

1. Take mage into house
2. Block him in spot with tables
3. Move at least one step away and do a "name attack" and click yourself
4. push tab (go into and out of combat mode)
5. hide
6. go into combat mode, double click to attack the mage
7. wait like a second then move next to the mage
8. you'll be attacking the mage without them attacking you. Make sure to keep them healed and you'll GM in no time.
