Losing precast if u drink pot, accurate?

Post by son »

I often precast a spell and equip wep in battle. When I drink a potion, the spell goes away.

Same can be done if you simply cast and drink pot.

Is this accurate?

I get particularly annoyed when I have a spell up and Auto-Open corpse, cancels out my targeting cursor. I think dbl, click (of any type) may cancel the spell. I do not think this is accurate at all.

Well, I just tested both in the demo, and neither one "takes away" the spell cursor. I don't have a recollection either way, because I don't remember chugging pots with a cursor up, and I didn't open many bags using last object while casting spells.

Patch removing precast

I know you could open doors while a spell was up, and doors are nothing more than items that transport to a relative location (and place a sound) when used.

There's a lot in the demo that's inaccurate in this era since you can't patch up to the point that's being emulated.

There is also a lot that is accurate in the demo if not more than inaccurate. The only time pre casting was nullified was when the spell was either canceled or timed out. Using items to nullify a pre casted spell did not take effect until the removal of pre casting in early '00. If my memory isn't mistaken Kaivan even pointed out in an article here a few weeks back that showed that pre casting would not be removed by using an item. I hate the fact that people can hold a spell and drink a potion, but that does not give it a right to be inaccurate. This goes for anyone else that feels the same way about the feature. Spell targets should not be overriden when using any item at all.

not being an ass, but if it was accurate then why was it taken out? when the shard first opened and for many months you could hold a spell target up and drink pots. i hope this change comes back. i like it.

I honestly don't know why it was implemented this way. I'm assuming that it was a general conensus among players at that time saying they remember it working the way it does now. I mean there is no doubt that the way it works now is not the way it worked in '99. The demo reconfirms this well beyond crystal clear and the patch note in '00 notes the removal of pre casting when using an item. This should be reverted back the way it once was in all honesty.

Right now on UOSA when you cast a spell and then use an item, the spell fizzles when you target it. This is not era-accurate because you used to be able to precast a spell and use pots while the target cursor was up. You could also open doors, open corpses, open pouches, etc. Basically, you could 'use' items while the spell target cursor was up that didn't also bring up a target cursor.

Does anyone else remember pre-casting invis and running up to your corpse and using Last Object to open your body, then targeting yourself with the spell to loot?

I'm sure you won't find much in patch notes before the removal of pre-cast because pre-cast in and of itself was not an intended feature until they reintroduced it.

This was belived era accurate when implemented, and was implemented solely for that reason. I don't have any of the original material on this handy, it's been in for a long time.
