I just wanted to point out this site: http://www.mibbit.com/chat/ for anyone out there too lazy to download a program for IRC like myself.
You can join the IRC channel from your web browser for free, just choose WildIRC from the dropdown menu, pick a name, and enter #secondage for the channel.
Maybe this is common knowledge, but i was excited by this discovery. Much easier than having to download mirc or whatever onto each of the PCs i use.
Mibbit - IRC Web Browser
Re: Mibbit - IRC Web Browser
I used it until I came here. It worked at first, but it started to give me an error message saying the wildirc didn't recognize it as a valid client or something along those lines.

dominos new recipe, any g00d? y/n?

Chatzilla for Firefox is a nice choice too
Also if you are already using AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, or any of those other messengers you may as well go with Pidgin. It's open source (last I checked) and allows you to connect to almost every chat program (as well as multiple connects for each chat program), as well as IRC
