An alternative to trading without checks VOTE PLZ
Subject: Given the reality of checks being abolished, it is encumbant upon the community of UOSA to find new methods to trade without checks. On this note, I add the following suggestion, which I have discussed on IRC.
The Problem: Without checks, it has been suggested that trade be conducted with house deeds on larger volume currency trades. I find this, however, to be insufficient in trades above what one is able to carry, and below that of a house deed. Vendors offer a mediocre solution, but many don't wish to conduct business outside of the protection of the town guards, as one might soon be relinquished of their newly acquired goods. The perpetrator of the deed absconding with the goods without penalty, or remorse.
A Solution: A T2A compatible solution does exist. We need only use diamonds as a currency, given their sale value of 120GP. A ratio of this magnitude means that a purchase of 36000GP may be conducted with a mere 300 diamonds. If adopted, everyone would use this proposed "currency" for larger trades, given that it is lightweight, and everyone is familiar with its value. A stock of diamonds could be kept in ones bank account for the intended purpose of trade, and kept for future trades in a single very small stack. Exchange for gold is as easy as a sell macro in razor.
The Proposal: The only obsticle to this idea is the disparity in price between the buying and selling of diamonds. If the price of exchange were equalized to facilitate an even exchange, in essence a 120 buy and sell price, one could merely exchange gold for diamonds to make secure transactions in towns. I propose nothing less than a change in buying price of diamonds on NPC vendors to be equal to that of the selling price. Price adjustments have been enacted for Blacksmith vendors already, adding precedence to the measure, and denying all claims that it would not be done. It is simply a choice. I put to the community to vote on this topic as a constructive alternative, which allows for fluid trade, and a pure t2a experience.

Of course mods wont like it as it cuts into broker profits but theives should vote for this, and people who dont want others to know their business

Take special note that when you want actual gold and go to sell these diamonds, that the current NPC buy price will shift downwards the more that you sell to them. This will require you to travel to multiple shops to get the top value for the diamonds spending time/regs to get from one place to the next. This theoretically would lower the value of the diamonds in an economic sense.

What if you wanted to have an inside bet, or pay a guild for its services? Do you really want a third party in on this?

The topic is to stable the sale/resale values for diamonds at 120. The way you describe is how it works now.Faust wrote:Take special note that when you want actual gold and go to sell these diamonds, that the current NPC buy price will shift downwards the more that you sell to them. Changing the way that price and demand works for NPC's isn't accurate.

the same day we discussed using deeds as currency a patch was implemented that kept vendors from buying deeds...this is also inaccurate am I correct
Re: An alternative to trading without checks VOTE PLZ
Real estate brokers buy deeds back just fine... The patch was actually the complete opposite making it accurate. Previously vendors that sold house deeds would buy them back which wasn't accurate at all. The reason OSI had to use a specialized npc that would buy your deed when appraised and dropped onto them was because of a gump related issue for the "vendor sell gump" not being able to exceed a specific amount of gold. This confuses players thinking they're selling the deed back at a lower price than they previously bought it for.

You don't read patch notes.ArchaicSubrosa wrote:the same day we discussed using deeds as currency a patch was implemented that kept vendors from buying deeds...this is also inaccurate am I correct

Major changes:
[*]House Deeds will be noobied (OSI Patch 5/25/1999)
[*]Architects no longer buy deeds, the error in the sell menu is the motivation for this.
[*]Real Estate Brokers will added to purchase deeds. (OSI Patch 4/14/1999)[/b][/size]

All the same these arent exact amount trade ins on deals and no one should be taxed by hiring a third party in which to conduct business.
Is it era accurate to exploit gold off players by third parties that should not be involved and then only on their schedeules?

How many people turned all their gold into checks prior to the patch knowing full well they had an advantage?
Re: An alternative to trading without checks VOTE PLZ
It is, actually. Tradespot brokers, markeedragon, all made a killing using third party trades.ArchaicSubrosa wrote:All the same these arent exact amount trade ins on deals and no one should be taxed by hiring a third party in which to conduct business.

It should be noted that one price change for an item that has no purpose and is never bought, only sold, would not affect era accuracy at all. It would not set a precedent either. It would, and it is revolting to consider, affect upon some players egos. I find it disqusting that some of the community are in not in favour of this simply because they want to feel important, and act as brokers during trade. Modifying the buy price of an item, not the "changing price and demand for NPC vendors" which eludes to a game wide change, is what I have proposed. Also, as previousluy stated, this has already been done. Tailors in the demo sell thread for 3 gp: bolts of cloth for 75: cotton for 91, and wool for 45. Weapon prices are also higher in demo than they are here. See (patch 69) as proof they were modified, and not to demo prices. This perports to change prices to be era accurate. Look at the demo, and see for yourself. These prices are much different on this shard. They were modified for what I assume are practical reasons. I am asking for the same courtesy. Do not vote with your emotions, but with your reason.

I don't understand why they took checks away instead of just making them stealable.

Checks arent stealable in locked containers...
Checks are no more then "Gold Deeds" and if you have them for everything else you cant lug around with you then why not gold?
The real debate should be...why not bring back checks?
