House Placement Broken?

Post by obuw »

I have been trying to place a small house everywhere for the last hour, and the game doesn't accept any location, even completely flat areas with absolutely nothing around. Has house placement been disabled or something?

This is getting very frustrating.

Well, this is the first time I'm trying to place a house in T2A. After failing to place it in several more desirable locations I started trying all kinds of empty places, this is one of them:

What is wrong about this spot for instance?

Might be best if we meet ingame I guess... I didn't know the T2A house placement system was this terrible. I never had a chance to get a house in OSI until 2007.

Another tip besides what Lin said:

Always have your game window pushed right up into the top left of your screen or the "ghost" image you see is not what you get.

A few notes about your attempts to place a house in that location...

First, the locations that you're targeting are under the lip of the adjacent tower. Any attempt to place a house must must meet the 1 tile limit for impassable objects on the sides of the building itself, regardless of the z-axis of the object itself.

Second, do not try and place a house while standing at the location that you're attempting to place the house. House placement checks for living creatures and items when it attempts to place a house, and standing at the location you are trying to place a house will cause the check to fail.

Third, there is a check of 5 tiles in front and back of an attempted house placement to make sure that there are no other houses. This check includes the steps of any houses, so be sure to count from the steps of any houses behind yours, and to include the steps of your own house for houses in front of the location you're trying to place in.

Fourth, there is a flat land check that surrounds the steps of the house (although this is being incorrectly applied to the entire foundation at the moment) to prevent houses from being placed in locations where they cannot be entered. This means that you need to check for make sure that you have flat land surrounding the front steps of your house as well.

Finally, as suggested by someone earlier in this thread, make sure that your client window is in the upper left hand corner of your screen. The ghosted image of the house that you're trying to place is generated relative to that corner of your client window, and placing the game window in a different location will cause you to target a different location from the one shown on your screen.

Keeping these rules and tips in mind, you will find multiple locations available to place a small house.
