I'd suggest, like some others have, that Nujelm and particularly Jhelom are good gy's to mess around at - Jhelom gy being next to a real town and a bank. A new dexxer can start on this shard and gain like mad in all the important skills. Loot everything that you kill including the boots and sell them.

The overland spawns can net you some gp without much hassle. Occlo is pretty much devoid of any activity with ettins, trolls, ogres, headless, and all else running around including brigands at times. You can kill stuff there and not hardly see a soul.

i did my first char nearly entirely at the keyboard, started with 50 healing/50 resist

it took me about 4 hours of fighting skeletons/zombies/timber wolves to get into the mid 90's of skill with almost 60 healing. try moonglow GY and the surrounding areas.

when you get to mid 90's in skill, buy a cure scroll, some regs, and 30 skill in magery and go directly to covetous lv3 liches with a blank rune. even with a gm wep you can kill the liches pretty easily by utilising LOS. in less than an hour you should have picked up a few recalls and mark scrolls, mark a rune for cove 3 and run back to vesper, mark a rune for the bank. you should have enough money to buy a silver wep and that will make you enough money to start training a mage, or whatever
