The Cut-Off Date
Re: The Cut-Off Date
I say do away with the skill management system, runebooks, Phase II, the lot.
Do away with passive camping gains too. Make camping the exclusion to the rule because:
a) Passive skillgain was meant to be removed- passive camping gains should be treated as an unfixed exploitable bug for ruining other people's characters.
b) Different circumstances than OSI, more 7xes, more exploiters, more annoying people.
c) The accuracy of the shard should not be held ransom by an exploitable bug which was used SOLELY to ruin people's characters.

Like I said.. passive skill gain is NEA for this shard anyway:Mens Rea wrote:I say do away with the skill management system, runebooks, Phase II, the lot.

I am aware of this.
But when you gain camping by watching other people use it, and it existed, it is effectively passive skill gain.
If passive skillgain was meant to be removed, then passive skillgain from camping should be removed.
Thereby removing the possibility of the bugged skillgain being used to ruin people's characters if skilllocks are removed.

Re: The Cut-Off Date
I don't know what you're talking about, passive skill gain for camping was never part of the game when I started playing, which was in Apr '99.
So it's not an issue - the cut off date was Nov '99.

I say revert back to stealable house deeds and runebooks, no distance from the house sign for trades (accurate) and the skill timers that were recently changed from 4 seconds to 10 seconds back to 4 seconds. No idea on the time frame of these tho

Re: The Cut-Off Date
That fits right in with blessed house deeds and runebooks
Re: The Cut-Off Date
Skill timers was changed from 10 seconds to 1 second in early '00 way after the current cutoff date.
Re: The Cut-Off Date
Why do we have to go by a cut off date anyways? What's wrong with using the range of t2a?
Is picking the best parts of the era too much of a slippery slope? Maybe it is, but its something to consider given the tradeoffs of this cutoff date in particular (using it vs not using it).
Personally I would like to see less secure housing, and unnewbied house deeds, but would also like to keep some of the more modern things. By modern things I'm 90% refering to skill locks, however potion kegs/runebooks are definitly convienent.
Also with regard to stat locks: if you have all your skills locked and your stats where you want them, then the stat locks become redundant since you wont gain any stats from locked skills (or at least shouldn't).

Re: The Cut-Off Date
Umm, picking and choosing items from various portions of the era only creates a unique era that never actually existed. The goal is to reproduce a replica of the t2a era not a unique version that never existed. Again, here is a good example that has been brought up multiple times in the past...
No Insta Hit: October '98-February '99
Insta Hit Patch: February '99-April '00
Pre Casting: October '98-January '00
No Pre Casting: January '00-April '00
Both of these existed and didn't exist at one point in time during the t2a era. Using multiple items from the different portions of each eras during these times is creating a t2a era that never existed accurately or mechanically. For example, one could argue no insta hit and no pre casting... but this system never existed. A person could argue insta hit and no pre casting but a system that uses many pre-january '00 items such as no dex based healing for example is a system that never existed. The list could go on and on with different variations of mixing and matching. The shard is trying to replicate the mechanics of the era in a way that happened. Not a weird hybrid mixture of miss/match mechanics that create something that never actually happened.
Going by a specific date allows you to be consistent and accurate at the same time.
Picking and choosing leads to inconsistency and inaccuracy as a whole.

Re: The Cut-Off Date
Leaving out the housing changes from 11/23/99 and implementing the other good changes, like potion kegs and runebooks, isn't entirely era-inaccurate. Those without a house would have been playing under those rules.

Re: The Cut-Off Date
That is why I have advocated many times in the past that we really need to either fall back to the previous 11/23/99 patch for a cutoff date wiping the slate clean from anything after it or stick with the current cutoff date of 11/23/99 keeping everything in it. The current course of action is inconsistent and worst of all inaccurate by creating a mechanical t2a system that never existed.

Lets keep the whole patch and be done with these threads.Faust wrote:That is why I have advocated many times in the past that we really need to either fall back to the previous 11/23/99 patch for a cutoff date wiping the slate clean from anything after it or stick with the current cutoff date of 11/23/99 keeping everything in it. Agree. Cut it off after 11/23/99.Bruno_Steelhart wrote:
