Anatomy and meditation in T2A?

Post by Despayre »

I was wondering... I noticed that when fighting I'm getting instant anatomy gains. Is this T2A accurate? I remember having to use the Anatomy (and evaluate Intelligence) manually...i.e. clicking on a target, rather than gaining automatically. Also, I don't remember meditation until after T2A. Am I mistaken? It has been some time since I played back in the day and my memory may be a little foggy.

Passive anatomy gains are OSI accurate when fighting. Meditation was introduced in Feb 2 1999 , 4 months into T2A.

This was a big patch that changed quite a few things in era. The patch notes for 1999 are available in our wiki:

Passive meditation, evaluating intelligence and anatomy gains were added when they started to dumb things down and make it easy.

The T2A I remember required a lonnnnnnnnnnng time to GM anat/ei, even med, because it took such a damn long time lol. Passive gains weren't part of it.

Passive gains for resmelting and cutting up leather armor are suprisingly high.

Yeah, I don't remember passive gains at all. I played up till just after trammel was released.

When T2A came out and they made mages have to have Eval, I remember macroing it all night at the stable in delucia rotating between the guards that spawned there. I believe that was before the 8x8 rule.

The first time I ever saw passive skill gain (lumberjacking when using an axe, anatomy when attacking, etc) was when I started playing free shards.

I did a bit of digging on the UO update site because I did not recall passive gains for most skills during T2A either, here is the portion of the patch notes that details the changes to secondary skills:
  • Server Publish Mar 9 2000 10:52AM CST
  • In addition, certain “secondary” skills will raise when using an associated skill (similar to the way tactics increases while using a combat skill). You will need to mark a skill as “up” in order for it raise in this manner.
    • Evaluate Intelligence can raise when Magery is used.
    • Anatomy can raise when either a melee skill or the healing skill is used.
    • Lumberjacking can raise when using an axe in melee.
    • Meditation can raise whenever mana is regenerated.
    • Hiding can raise when Stealthing.
    • Detect Hidden can raise when attempting to pick a lock when a chest is trapped or when disarming a trap.

This confirms that passive gains were added just before UOR for all skills except tactics.
