You got down-voted enough before you logged in. So you can't see it or access it. This is what chum was talking about with allowing users to vote, even if they had negative karma.

I would say all users should get a vote, but only allowed to cast 1 vote for each person they "rate"...which can be changed at any time.

I'll just spend some more time in the guides/newbie section. Not all of my posts are garbage, ya know.

No player should put much stock in it, and the only stock they should put in it at all would concern how nice a person is generally speaking. And, as I have said already, that does not translate into whether the person will kill you, steal from you, etc.. This is a game and those are parts of the game. It can, however, tip you off that some, even people who behave well, are unpleasant people. Certainly, it isn't fool proof. Even a very nice might get down-voted due to the cA Karma Conspiracy (TM), but, typically, low karma indicates an unpleasant person (though there is one major flaw discussed below).

A few possible improvements on the system:

1. You can only rate a player once ever, but that rating can be taken back or changed. Maybe the same for posts too.
2. Ratings are only 1 or -1.
3. People with negative karma can still rate others. Right now, I think the system is distorted because if some group gets downvoted quickly by another group, then they cannot retaliate. And the retaliation is useful, since karma is only a function of popularity with others players. Lack of retaliation makes the aggressors seem more popular than they are.
4. We as a community need to make absolutely clear to new players the limits of the system. Point them towards me: I have very high karma right now, but they cannot trust me at all.
5. Perhaps a limited number of votes per day per account? Could help with the retaliation problem above by slowing down votes so that no one gets destroyed instantly by the cA Karma Conspiracy, etc.
Okay I didn't know how that worked. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I should of asked you (forum mod) on how it works before I post nonsense. But you deserve a good rep anyways, I love your stories, hilorious! People really need to look at the game like you do, play it for what it is, stealing is part of the game!

I see my karma going down easily because It would be funny to quite a few people. Not that it really matters. It's what you do that matters. I have been up voting everyone except maybe a couple scammers. I'm good like that.

Yeah, there's a certain "crowd" that keeps down-voting me because they think its funny. Hopefully it will wear off soon. Some of my worst "rep" posts are completely helpful posts, so its pretty obvious that people are just making a game out of it. I guess it gives them something else to do. :)

Yeah, I have a -5 Karma and I never log into the forums or talk to anyone. Must be a group of people just trolling the boards and negative Karma'ing everyone. Seems like a completely broke system if you can't, even if you're negative, fight back. It just allows "he who logged in first" to win and is setup in such a way as people cannot then get it back. Easily abused.

Thumbs Down on this system in its current setup.

I was gaining good karma steadily until this morning I got voted way down. All of my negative karma is coming from a completely non-offensive un-opininionated post in a long dead thread. Seems to suggest I have one enemy with a lot of forum accounts.

Oh, well! At least somebody's interested in me. . . Maybe I should start being a giant douche so I can be a forum dread lord.

I have upvoted everyone in this thread. A conversation is always worth having.
