A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
i dont think horse speed can be properly altered within the runuo emulator.
i know it can be changed, but another free shard i used to play on attempted to reduce mount speed, and never got it to work properly. all it would do (client side) was make u stop and pause for a split second between steps and basically created a really nasty rubberband effect since there is no mount speed restriction on the client side. i think the only way to do it and make it look right would be to release a modified client as well. and that wont happen

Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Altering the speed downwards significantly will never give you a "smooth" feel. It will seem laggy and from my personal experiences there was never a rubberband effect. I'm not quite sure what that shard did in this instance... The slower you get the more laggy you feel when it comes to running. It has been suggested by many people that the RunUO speed is off slightly. There really is no possible way to verify this besides comparing it to the current UO maybe. That doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't changed later on by EA either. Veryifying the speed isn't an easy task at all.
Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
i think we should verify horse speeds by looking at older screen shots

Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
I'm on board with horses moving too fast and being too inexpensive as well, although I've never taken action on this primarily due to lack of evidence.
I've believed that horse speed is adjustable. I'll look into this some.

Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Testing on current OSI servers may help, although should check all patch notes for any possible horse speed changes, even if it was client side.
Is it not possible to get a horse in the demo?
Is it not possible to get a horse in the demo?
Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
If a horse is obtainable in the demo it hasn't been discovered yet. There are no vendors that sell animals. The summon creature spell was intentionally blocked from conjuring any animals so that option is out. There are also no horse spawns on the island. Boats are also rigged to generate generic keys along with houses that don't permit access to the structures. This means that getting off of the island to obtain a horse is also not viable. If you can think of any other possible way to get one please let me know. I'm pretty positive that it isn't possible though. OSI kept a lot of features on lockdown in the demo.
Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Earlier in the thread someone mentioned horses having different costs from visit to visit. That's probably because vendors on OSI would charge more for items as they sold more.
Let's say if a vendor has 10 of one item. If I buy all 10 in one swoop, then they will be at the original price for each one. For each one bought separately, though, the pricing would increase on the remainders.
Therefore , if I went to purchase a horse and the NPC only had 1 in stock, it would be considerably higher than it wold be if he had been fully stocked.

Cutpurse may be onto something now that I recall... I remember buying regs and getting pissed at the people that would leave 10-20, because everytime it happened the price would shoot up from people buying it. I could just be remembering wrong though...
Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Aye, the price was proportioned higher on items based on how much they initially stocked with, and how many they had left.

Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Having been on live servers in the last couple of days for some testing, I can say that horse speeds here match the horse speeds on OSI. Also, the horse speeds on OSI are the same speeds that I encountered throughout T2A and UOR. The only difference throughout that time is the bandwidth and computers available to the players. I was among the players that didn't ride horses during most of T2A because it was simply faster in computer processing power and bandwidth consumption to play on foot. Towards the end of T2A and in to UOR, I a few people I knew upgraded to superior computers and faster connections. For anyone who remembers, for a time there was the phrase "connection whore" that ran around on servers during the transition period between the majority of users having slower connections and computers to high speed connections and computers.

Yeah I remember when you used to buy something the price went up on remaining stock if not bought out entirely.Derrick wrote:Aye, the price was proportioned higher on items based on how much they initially stocked with, and how many they had left.

Horse speeds were always the same just people had 300-400 ping and were hit with tons of spam and action going on that further dampered movement. Not to mention the servers themselves were not any good.

Mount and player speeds are non adjustable in the runuo client. You could speed up a horse, but it will be the same when a players on it, because once a player mounts it its considered the player.
Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Player speeds are adjustable in RunUO dread. It is possible to check if your player is mounted and adjust the speed of that player based off that criteria.

Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
Strait out of Ryans mouth, it is not possible to increase player speed, or player mounted speed. I've asked about this a few times, while trying to make speed increasing items on my various freeshards i've ran in the past.
Re: A lot less horse riding back on OSI
He lied to you.
I have personally seen and experienced it on the DFI t2a shard when it was still alive. You can ask XLX about it if you would like. Mounts would run slightly faster than on foot feeling like you were running on 56k. On top of this Rebirth(zippi's old pre-t2a shard) had a funky horse speed system. It "tried" to mimic a real horse scenario. Where it would start out slow and speed up from slow to full speed depending on the distance.
