Newb Question about melee chance to hit.
Sorry guys for this question, but It's been awhile since I've played.
The question is this: Does tactics affect chance to hit or just increase damage? Wondering if I had just a melee skill such as fencing without tactics or anatomy would I still be able to effectively hit a target even though it would not be for much damage?

Anatomy = Damage and healing(bandages) bonus.
Tactics = Damage bonus.
Weapon Skill = Chance to hit with that weapon type.
Tactics = Damage bonus.
Weapon Skill = Chance to hit with that weapon type.

Faust is correct.
The formula is something like: % of base dmg = tactics + 50.
So at 100 tactics it's 150% of base damage. A considerable increase, imo. (If that makes any sense)

The exception is Archery Bonus.
The magic modifer for Archery is a melee bonus rather than a damage modifer.
So, holding a bow with +25 Archery means you won't get hit as much as well as strike more.

Wait so if Tactics is only a damage multiplier, if you had no tactics and switch for something like healing, would you still be able to throw down some reasonable hally hits?

Re: Newb Question about melee chance to hit.
No, MrT.
Tactics is actually a modifier instead of a bonus theoretically. For example, having no tactics would actually give you a much lower damage output from the weapon instead of the regular base damage. Tactics will eventually hit the 100% base damage, and if I'm not mistaken a 150% of the base damage at hundred in the skill.
Anatomy and Strength atrributes on the other hand purely gives bonus damage that is added to the damage output of the weapon.

Here is how tactics works.
0 tactics = 50% base dmg of the weapon
50 tactics = 100% base dmg of the weapon
100 tactics = 150% base dmg of the weapon
100 anatomy = 20% damage bonus
GM swords vs GM swords = 50% hit chance
GM swords vs 0 swords = GM will hit 100%
Edited for accuracy.
0 tactics = 50% base dmg of the weapon
50 tactics = 100% base dmg of the weapon
100 tactics = 150% base dmg of the weapon
100 anatomy = 20% damage bonus

Anatomy is a 20% increase not 30% Eulogy. The extra 10% was added on after the UOR era.
Also, combat hit % is based on the weapon skill of your opponent at that particular time when the swing occurs not the same type of weapon you're using at that moment For example, using a sword with GM swords against an opponent using a mace with GM macing will yield a 50% chance to hit. However, using a sword with GM swords against an opponent using a mace with zero macing will yield a 100% hit, etc... I know that is what you meant but clarifying that incase someone may get confused.

Does Dexterity play into this as well besides how fast you swing a weapon? Is there anything stat/skill wise that hastens stamina gain?

Re: Newb Question about melee chance to hit.
So with zero tactics,high dex,GM fencing,and using a dagger would I still be able to hit a gm wrestler fairly often?
Re: Newb Question about melee chance to hit.
Chance to hit pits your weapon skill against theirs.
Your GM Fencing vs their GM wrestling, and it's a 50% chance to hit.
